I was diagnosed with an illness called Candidiasis in December of 2008. After a year of intense reading and trial and error with diet, I am finally seeing great progress. Candidiasis happens when the body begins to produce an overgrowth of yeast in the digestive tract. mucus membranes, sinuses, bladder and so on. It causes an array of symptoms such as fatigue, sinus problems (allergy like), muscle aches, nail fungus, headaches, brain fog, concentration problems, dry eyes, Irritable bowel syndrome, bladder iritation, rashes, eczema ....the list goes on. For many years I was misdiagnosed with IBS and allergies....even though I have had practically EVERY symptom there is. It is amazing to me that not one doctor or specialist over the past 11 years mentioned that a Candida overgrowth could be the problem. There are many different causes of candidiasis. Some of the possible causes are: Antibiotic use, vaccenes, stress, poor nutrition, toxins of all sorts (water quality, lotions, air quality, processed foods, cosmetics, dental work, vacinations, cleaning products,....) we are surrounded by toxic sustances in every direction. Our poor bodies just can't deal with it and reacts by getting "out of balance". The purpose of this therapy and diet id to help our bodies, help themselves in healing and regaining proper balance.
The Vitamix is going to be a great tool in preparing all of my healthy meals and bringing me step by step closer to a complete recovery.
The key to eating for healing is to include a high amount of "good fats" and low amount of carbohydrates in the diet. Good fats are things like coconut oil, olive oil, animal fats and butter. (Julia Child was right on!)
While healing you must AVOID foods such as grains (wheat, rye, corn, rice etc...), fruit, processed foods, dairy (except butter), high carb foods. As all these foods contribute to the yeast overgrowth.
The only way to cure Candidiasis is with proper nutrition so that the body can heal itself. It takes time... but can be accomplished. The length of time depends on how long you have had the imbalance.
I hope you enjoy all the recipes here and that they will help you towards healing.
I have been offline for quite a while, so I apologize to those who were following. Long story short, we were broken into and lost our TVs, computers, etc. in June. We decided to take the insurance money and do renovations on our house rather than repurchase electronics. This was both a good and bad thing. Good, because we realized just how much time we wasted in front of the TV and/or computer. Bad, because this included losing our P90X and with the distractions that come along with both being broken into and summertime, I let is slide all the way until now. The farther I got from my workouts, the farther I got from the healthy eating habits I had established as part of my Candida cleanse as well. The good news is that as long as you are alive you can ALWAYS get back on the HEALTH WAGON! So, I am back again! I look forward to getting back in touch with my vitamix friends for both support and recipes!
A special shout out to Rene Oswald, who posts great recipes, videos, and other fun stuff all the time on the vitamix community. I want to be just like her when I grow up!
Hello Rene,
I have enjoyed viewing your videos and am curious if any of your raw food creations and smoothies are suitable for the Type 2 diabetic? I have been watching closely my diet for many years and have arrived at the place where types of foods and there preparation seem to be my last chance at good control of my blood sugar. I started looking at your videos to see how you used the Vita-Mix Blender and then became very interested in a raw food diet. I use very little meat in my diet now and could easily remove it entirely. I hope you may have some suggestions because I love fruit and vegetables but know that most fruits are too high in natural sugar. I am also looking into Dragon Fruit and Dried Dragon
Fruit. Do you know about it’s use in salads or smoothies.
Thank you,
Robbay
Hi Robbay,
I’m sorry to hear that you have diabetes, but am excited to hear your interest in this lifestyle. I’ve seen many diabetics decrease or stop needing insulin shots completely after adding delicious living foods to their diet. I know many people will benefit from your question. Thanks for asking!
Fruits are a valuable food for all of us, including diabetics. They are high in vitamins, phytochemicals, and fiber. The fiber allows the fruit to breakdown in our bodies at the perfect speed. When fruits are juiced and the fiber is removed from the fruit it changes the way the fruit is metabolized in our bodies. This faster assimilation can cause the blood sugar to rise too quickly, therefore diabetics should refrain from drinking fruit juices. That’s where the Vita-Mix becomes an essential part of the diabetic’s kitchen. When making fruit smoothies, the entire fruit, including the fiber is present. In it’s “whole” form, it is a very acceptable part of the diet. Adding greens to your fruit to make a “green smoothie” helps to slow the absorbtion of the fructose and decrease the chances of blood sugar elevations. The only precaution that diabetics need to take when eating fruits are to eat those that have a low glycemic index. The Glycemic Index measures how fast the food is converted to glucose. Those fruits that score a Glycemic Index below 55 are the best ones for diabetics.
Here are some examples of the Glycemic Index in specific fruits:

Low Glycemic Index food for diabetics are less than 55
Foods with GI index between 55 and 70 are consider intermediate
High Glycemic Index food have a glycemic index above 70
You can see by this list, there are plenty of fruits that diabetics can eat.
This is just a chart of the fruits, however most of the other foods that I use in the recipes in our “Transitioning to Living Cuisine” book are low glycemic, such as Nuts—GI of 15-30, Tomatoes—GI of 15 and Green Leafy Vegetables with a GI of 0-15.
Interesting that you asked about dragon fruit, also know as pitaya fruit. There have been health claims that dragon fruit helps to control glucose blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes and some with type 1 diabetes. Dragon fruit is also high in dietary fiber and Vitamin C. I normally recommend fresh fruit rather than dried fruit, but since it’s often hard to find the fresh fruit, you may have to purchase the dried variety. Another benefit of eating dried dragon fruit is that the dried fruit has about 10x more Vitamin C than the fresh fruit. Fresh dragon fruit or dried dragon fruit both are great additions to a healthy diet. Fresh dragon fruit is best eaten by cutting the fruit in half and scooping the flesh out. They are a wonderful addition to smoothies, or just eaten by themselves or in a fruit salad.
It is also important to pay attention to the way you combine your foods. Fruits should always be eaten alone or only with greens or celery. Fruit should never be combined with fat, this includes avocado, coconut, olive oil, nuts and seeds, etc. Not only does this slow the assimilation of the sugars from the fruit, which is harmful to diabetics, it also causes unnatural fermentation, often causing a candida albicans overgrowth, which is the origin to many negative health issues.
Remember, everyone is different in how they assimilate fruit. This also changes as your body becomes healthier. You should monitor your blood sugar level to determine when it is the best time of day for you to eat fruit. The majority of the people that I have worked with find the morning hours to be the best time to consume fruit. They then eat the vegetable, nut and seed dishes for lunch and dinner. This allows for proper food combining, without having to think much about it. If you do east fruit at a meal when you will also be eating vegetables/fat in your food, it’s best to eat the fruit first, about 15-30 minutes before you eat the rest of the meal.

Enjoy the journey!
So, now that my candida cleanse is coming to a close, and I have developed much healthier eating habits, I am now starting the 3rd week on my new exercise regimen, the P90X, yes, the same one that runs those awful infomercials all the time. My hubby wanted it initially and I decided if he would drink smoothies (WITH GREENS!), then I would do the workouts too. We do not work out together (that would be grounds for divorce), but we are both doing the same program. We turned our office into the workout room.
First of all, I can tell you that this is a HARD workout. I am not a complete couch potato, but I have not had a real workout routine for years. This program kicks my butt; I can't even do a lot of the stuff, or I have to do it in a modified form (ex. I do pushups from my knees right now and pull-ups with a band). My hubby isn't a body builder either, so we are both very challenged. But I do appreciate the mottos they use - "do your best, forget the rest", "just show up and push play" and the trainer on the videos is very good.
We did a lot of measurements when we started and weighed ourselves. I swore that I would not touch the scale again until day 30 which is April 19th. I think I am typical of most women when I say that I am very critical of my body and regardless of how much my hubby insists that he sees results, I don't see it. But each day I can do a little bit more of the workout, or go lower on the pushups, or lift more weights, so even if I don't see it I know something is happening. Doing it together (but at separate times) has meant being supportive of each others' efforts: we bring each other water and after really hard workouts make each other smoothies. He has become quite the smoothie maker and actually gets upset if I run out of greens to put in his smoothie now. This is a straight meat and potatoes guy who I use to beg to eat a side salad at dinner.
P90X includes a meal plan as part of the program and guess what the first phase is??? Low Carb!!! No Sweets!!! High Protein!!! Isn't that what I just did for the past 8 weeks??!!! I'm thinking that my morning smoothie is going to be great to keep up with. I am going to make lots of veggie soups and sauce bases in my vitamix. I will need to find some non-flesh protein alternatives because, although I am not currently a vegetarian, I am not a huge meat fan either. Hello nut butters and seeds, tofu, soybeans, whatever - I like it all. Send non-flesh protein ideas my way quick!
I apologize to everyone who has faithfully been following along with me on the journey. I own a small business and one of my employee's just had their first baby (well, his wife did) and he asked to have a week of his vacation when the baby came. That meant I had to do his job and my own which has meant 10-12 hour days since last Thursday. I wanted a good night's sleep to deal with it, so I avoided my computer at home completely to keep from being tempted to stay up late online. I hope you will forgive me.
Tomorrow is the last day of my candida cleanse. I almost can't believe I did it! 8 weeks without sugar, artificial sweeteners, bread, pasta, rolls, pastries, potatoes, sweet fruits, almost no caffeine, and almost no starches at all. I feel great. I lost some weight. I am sleeping through the night for the first time in years. Was it worth it? A resounding YES. Am I going to celebrate with some pasta? YES! Am I going to go back to my old habits? NO. I dont know who the quote is from, but this paraphrase is true - "Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels."
My morning smoothie is now a way of life for both me and my hubby. I am going to ramp it up a bit with more fruit and greens and less whey protein. It is part of my goal to still transition to as much fresh and raw food as possible. I am going to keep making homemade almond milk and nut butters - has anyone made macadamia nut butter? I adore them, and as good as the raw pecan butter was I think I will be even more excited with macadamia nut butter.
Organic produce is still very difficult to come by where we live, so it is a challenge. I have to mail-order raw nuts and seeds. And I am still looking for a raw food chef or coach in the Coastal Georgia area, if you are out there! Otherwise, I'll have to head down to Florida, get trained, and become the Coastal Georgia Raw Food Chef!
I am now in Week 7 of my cleanse. I no longer have any detox symptoms and have seen a significant reduction in fatigue and the other more minor issues I hoped the cleanse would help with, so at this time I am planning to complete 8 weeks - Hurray! My skin - I havent had a single blemish in 5 weeks; I also have a terrible problem with some sort of coldsore-like virus that shows up out of nowhere in my nose (it looks as horrible as it sounds and they last for about 10 days); I developed one a week ago and it never got any worse than an itchy spot and went away within 3 days - I think the detoxification gave it no room to grow! I started a workout program this past Saturday and am really excited about it. It is DVD based and includes a variety of different kinds of exercises both cardio and strength training. It is not easy, but allows a lot of room for modification for those of us (like me) that are not ready for the hard-core stuff! I did make one boo-boo tonight - I had some early morning meetings so I did not get to work out until late in the day. So late that I ate dinner and about 20 minutes later tried to work out. Bad idea - I made it through most of the workout but when I went to do ab work on the floor I got a shot of pain (heartburn?) up my chest. I couldn't lay down to do the ab work. NOTE TO SELF - Eat at least an hour before or an hour after. And, if I had made a smoothie for a light, late dinner, I probably would have been fine, rather than having a full meal. Lesson learned. I am hoping to figure out how to work this video camera we have and do a video of my candida smoothie for you soon. It has really made this cleanse a lot easier. I have never been able to eat a big breakfast (eggs, bacon, etc.) first thing in the morning, and not being able to have any bread-type breakfast items (bagel, muffin) left me stuck without breakfast if my smoothie wasnt available to me. And I make a HUGE one so that I am not too hungry and over-tempted to cheat at lunch. I did start adding one new ingredient this week - a handful of young spinach! I cant even taste it. And now the hubby is having them too! You know what I am most looking forward to having in 2 weeks? Bananas! Pears! Mango! I miss sweet fruit. In fact, I think I could actually do without bread and pasta permanently if I want to. I am still really wanting to move more and more to eating living cuisine, so the end of this cleanse would be a great time to move forward in that goal!
Yesterday was the beginning of Week 6 of an 8 week candida cleanse process. For those who have not read the first blog post, this requires avoidance of all starches (baked goods, rice, pastas and veggies included), all sugar and sugar substitutes, and even sweet fruit. Candida, which naturally occurs in everyone, feeds off sugar, so since starches turn to sugar in the digestive tract they must also be eliminated, in order to kill off the overgrowth and bring the candida back to a natural balance. Candida can cause all kinds of health problems that many of us and doctors attribute to other causes. For me, it has caused fatigue, weight problems, irritability, all issues that I tried to deal with in other ways both homeopathic and via medications. It has not been easy, but in the past 5 weeks I have felt a significant drop in my cravings for sugar and starches, which were almost overwhelming and constant when I started. My energy level has improved, but not yet to the level I am hoping for, but I think that has more to do with my sedentary lifestyle than the candida now. I have lost about 10 lbs anyway, without exercise - I am now plateau'd and have sat at the same weight, give or take a pound, for 2 weeks. But I know I have eaten healthier in the past 5 weeks than I have in the past year, lots of veggies, lean protein, nuts, and seeds. I am loving my morning smoothie, and my homemade pecan butter on tart green apples. I have days when rather than a meal I eat a handful of nuts and seeds and I am satisfied. And homemade almond milk - gotta love it! A lot of this would not be possible with a regular mixer - my vitamix is the most valued power tool in the house right now! The hardest part at this point is variety. I pretty much love all veggies but the rest of my household does not. Being able to sit down and eat a meal together without make 2 separate ones has been challenging, so I am fixing a lot of the non-starchy veggies the rest will eat with a protein and a salad. I am getting bored. I wish there was a raw food chef/instructor close to me - I looked for one online, including Alisha Cohen's site, and the closest was still 3.5 hours drive one-way. I think I would really enjoy learning to make some of the more exciting raw food dishes that feel a little overwhelming when I just read a "un-"cook book. I own all the equipment I think I need, but for the life of me get scared to try to make this stuff. It is so much different than the way we were taught to prepare food. But that is the direction I really want to go. I am starting to not enjoy the taste of flesh protein very much, probably because I have been eating a lot more than usual during these weeks. I have tried to make a few soups in the vitamix and they tasted good but I didnt like the "foamy" texture. Maybe I'm just having a bum day - it has been raining here for 3 days now and I want some sunshine! I definately can't wait to be able to eat all kinds of fruits again, to get back to green smoothies, and my homemade energy bars, full of raw honey, nuts, seeds, and low-temp dehydrated fruits. I use to make them in my food processor, so I wonder if the vitamix will work instead?~
I've been fighting off a headcold for the past 3 days which has made me sleepy, cranky, and have pretty much no appetite, so not much of an update to give you. I just wanted to touch base with those who have been so supportive reading the blog.
After about 7 beautiful, warm days we had a cold, rainy day, which did not help my cold or mood. I do have one positive to say - my 15-year old daughter had this same cold for 2 weeks and counting, while I am definately on the tail end of it already. Since she is the young, slender, very physically active one (4 days a week of very intense dance lessons, plus swimming on the off days), I have to assume it's the healthy eating that is making the difference. You can't eat junk food forever!
I still have not gotten my butt up to exercise. I have no excuse. I wont even try. I know that regardless of the eating habits, I am plateaued at my current weight (dare I share it? 169 lbs) until I give my body a reason to burn it up.
My husband is waiting over my shoulder for the computer, so I have to end here. Talk again soon.
I errored on my last post - I have a total of 8 weeks or more to do this, so I have completed 3 weeks and 2 days, with just short of 5 weeks to go. Sorry about that.
My husband took me away for our 17th wedding anniversary to St. Augustine, FL. It was beautiful. It is a great town to walk everywhere so we must have walked 5 miles a day. We spent one afternoon at the beach club that was part of our hotel (which was not on the beach but an historic hotel right downtown). I can't say I stuck to my candida eating hard-core, but nibbles are better than bites. I did not gain any weight, which is always a concern on a special trip like that. And I had several wonderful salads, with ingredients I havent thought of before but will definately start using.
As soon as I was back home, I was back on track. Just finished making a new batch of Strawberry Frozen Yogurt. I made a recipe for Baked Stuffed Zucchini last night, using my vitamix to prepare the egg-based stuffing (more like a souffle). I didnt like the baked zucchini; I prefer it raw. But the stuffing part was good and fluffy.
I have noticed a sharp reduction in my general appetite/hunger level. I get full on less (maybe because most of what I am eating is full of either protein or fiber). And I am not hungry as often. I always have my smoothie for breakfast, but it is often mid-afternoon before I want anything else, and several times a handful of raw nuts or half a tart apple with my homemade pecan butter has sufficed until dinner. Perhaps this is another effect of the cleanse? My body is no longer craving sugar or unnecessary calories? I am definately not starving myself.
Interesting thing - started having detox symptoms after a few days of faithfully taking supplements! Hhmmm, perhaps the supplements are allowing my body to "dig deeper" into my systems and flush more stuff out. I had read to expect this with the oil of oregano so I started with only 1 capsule and (when the headaches subside) will increase to 2 and 3. OoO is very antifungal and a good one to take during this cleanse. I think it is causing the detox symptoms. But the headaches are not nearly as bad as the first days were (see my original blog post on that).
Hopefully this is not too personal for readers, but I realized today that I have not had any gas or constipation issues since starting this. Constipation was never a real concern, but I often felt bloated and gassy - not much fun for us ladies especially! SO, another positive and unexpected outcome to this process. 3 weeks and 3 days to go is the plan! Unless I have more detox after I start my exercise routine; continuing detox symptoms will add an additional 4 weeks on, to make sure the candida is fully cleared up.
I am looking forward to re-incorporating a lost habit back into my eating after this cleanse is over - green smoothies! If you haven't started, there are several recipes and videos available on this site and others. Basics are 40% green leafy of your choice and 60% (sweet) fruit of choice, with perhaps some ice and enough water to get the smoothie consistency. With a regular blender, you sometimes still have bits of greens, which is not fun to eat (especially if you are NOT a fan of eating raw kale or swiss chard, which I am not), but the vitamix pulverizes it. Yes, you still taste the greens, but the primary flavor is the fruit, and the health benefits are worth learning to love it!
Homemade almond milk is a life-saver during this cleanse - you must try making it. The recipe is online and in the book. I use stevia to taste and a dash of vanilla. You can strain the sediment out if you like (and use it to make nut cheese), or leave it in for added fiber - in my morning smoothie I dont even notice it, but drinking it straight is a little "gritty" - I still love it. It stays fine in the fridge and needs a good shake before drinking. A batch of the recipe makes about 3-4 cups.
I saw some people have added this blog to their favorites and even posted comments - wow, that's cool! I write it mainly to remind myself of why I am doing this, but it is thrilling if others are also getting something out of it. I hope it is uplifting and motivating, because it is for me! Not every day is a good day - like when the rest of my family wanted KFC for dinner and I had a bottle of water because there was nothing I could eat. I try to keep focused on the reason I am doing this - health of body and mind. Accomplishing the goals I have for my life REQUIRES me to be in the best possible physical health I can achieve. I hope you feel the same way about your life's goals!
Hello Everyone! As I posted last time, supplements are my big challenge right now. Food is going well. Actually, now that I think about it, I had no bread cravings for the past 2 days! Yippee! Of course, they went away right after my wonderful friend found me a "bread" that I could actually eat during this cleanse...I can have limited amounts of yogurt, so I tried the vitamix cookbook recipe for frozen strawberry yogurt (with a ratio of 4 cups strawberries to 1 cup yogurt, that would mean very little actual yogurt in a serving.) I used stevia to sweeten it. Wow! It was fabulous. Even my "breyer's only" husband liked it. And it was a beautiful color - eye appeal is important when you're limiting what you eat as severely as this cleanse does. Today is my day off from work so I spent it making raw pecan nut butter (very yummy on celery or my tart apple), and a chicken salad made with rosemary-herb baked chicken breast finely chopped with a homemade salad dressing and some quinoa to give it some binding power. I like to eat it wrapped in leaf lettuce for lunch. I also came up with a candida-friendly meatball today that I am calling Meatball Florentine for the large amount of spinach I included. Ground turkey, lots of lightly saute'd veggies, 1 egg and some vitamixed pine nuts to give it that "breadcrumbs" feeling. They remind me of italian wedding soup. They are ready to eat in the fridge, I am still deciding how to serve them. Marinara is not allowed (no cooked tomatoes) so perhaps a thick broth and make it like the soup? I'll let you know.
I am down 9 lbs. and to be honest, I havent exercised at all. That is not meant to be a brag. I am both happy and mad at myself. SO, if step 1 was getting the food requirements down, and step 2 is getting the supplement requirements into habit, then step 3 (for next week) has to be EXERCISE. Not my favorite thing to do, but if I want to live to be 107* I gotta do it.
*Why 107? I will be 107 on June 14, 2076. I told my children I would like to live (and be healthy and sane) to see my country's Tricentennial Celebration on July 4, 2076.
Things are going smoother every day! I have experimented with several recipes on the vitamix website to make them "candida cleanse" friendly, and have had some successes. One is converting the orange sorbet recipe to grapefruit (with stevia to sweeten). It was really quite good, a lovely smooth texture. I am allowed to have strawberries, so I am going to try a combo next time I make it.
I have overcome cravings for sweets; generally, a glass of cool water does the trick if one comes up. But I have still been craving breads. A wonderful friend who is going through a similar cleansing and healthier eating process found a candida-acceptable bread in a healthfood store in Savannah! It is made of seeds and spelt flour, no sugar, no yeast, no preservatives, etc. It reminds me of a slightly denser Ezekiel Bread (my favorite). I had a toasted sandwich for dinner and it was so filling I couldn't eat it all. 1/2 of one would have been enough! I was just so excited to have bread after 12 days without.
Has anyone else noticed that the most expensive item on a lot of menues is the salads? And they load them up with cheese and bacon and heavy salad dressing? I'm opting for broiled fish with steamed broccoli a lot. Yeah, broccoli is usuallly the only non-starchy offered. There is a mexican restaurant here that offers a Pollo Loco, a grilled chicken breast with peppers, onions, tomatoes and chipotle peppers that is a great change of pace. They serve it with tortillas which I just dont eat. It is a challenge to eat out and avoid sugar, starches and breads.
I am no longer having problems with midday fatigue, but I am very ready for bed by NLT 10 pm. I get my son up for school about 6:20 during the week. I have only had one night in 10 days that I did not sleep soundly - 2 nights ago - I hadn't eaten late or had anything to drink, but we watched an action thriller for a while before bed and, even though I have seen it before, it bothered my sleep. NOTE TO SELF - watch happy stuff, and avoid the news before going to sleep!
I am having some difficulty sticking to my supplements. I just keep forgetting! I'm thinking perhaps I should just throw whatever I can into my morning smoothie! I am on my own this weekend with my husband on his way to Bike Week in Daytona, so it is a great time to stay home, focus on myself, and get this supplement habit down.
Wow! I made it a full week (and 2 days, at this point). It was in some ways more difficult than I expected and easier too. I did not experience detox as badly as I feared. But I did not realize how "addicted" I am to sweets, starches and artificial sweetners (i.e., diet soda). I still crave them badly, but it is controllable. My body has looked to quick sugars for fuel for a long time, so the most noticeable and prolonged "detox" symptom has been the tiredness. BUT, that has abated a lot this weekend. And I am sleeping through the night for the first time in years and I have lost 6 lbs in 9 days.
This week starts my supplements on top of the rigorous eating requirements of a candida cleanse. Different practictioners recommend different supplements during this cleanse. I am sticking with a multivitamin, Omega supplement, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and oil of oregano.
The best part of my day by far in my morning smoothie. It is the sweetest thing I have all day. It consists of 1 cup frozen strawberries (normally), 1 cup homemade almond milk, 1 tbsp raw coconut oil, 2 packets stevia, and about 1/2 cup ice and 1/2-1 cup water. I am going to add whey protein this week because even drinking it all (which is about 3 cups) I am famished by lunch and that is making lunch the hardest time to stick to the requirements of the cleanse. The coconut oil gives it a great flavor - try it!
I am not a salesperson, and everyone who reads this probably already owns one, but I have to tell you how much I LOVE my Vitamix. It is so refreshing to purchase a product that really lives up to everything it says. I made raw pecan butter in it this weekend and I really did not expect it to be CREAMY and not gritty. My kids expected it to taste like the stuff I've bought at the health food store and I had to beg them to try it. They loved it and mostly because the texture was pleasing just as much as the taste. If you havent tried making nut butters yet, it is a pleasant suprise. Add some sweetener of choice if you want it sweet - we added some stevia which is the only thing allowed on the Candida Cleanse. Better by far than any peanut butter we've ever used.
Day 3
Today is my 3rd day of a candida cleansing. There are a lot of great resources out there via the internet, naturopath doctors, and your local healthfood stores to explain why everyone should do one and how. It is NOT easy, especially if you love sweets, bread, or have an addiction to artificial sweeteners. But, I am believing that it is going to be worth it. I will be on the cleanse 8-12 weeks.
Think of how you feel the first day you start a new workout routine - you are excited, motivated, right? Then day 2 came around and every muscle in your body hurts and you can barely get out of bed.
Day 1 was great. I loved making candida-safe smoothies and soup in my Vitamix. It made it so easy.
Day 2 started off fine, but by 11 am I was SSOOO TIRED and I had a horrible headache that stayed with me the entire day. I did not take any OTC painmeds because, hey, I'm on a cleanse! I was off work that day, thank God, so I lay down in my bed and sipped water and broth. My loving husband made me a salad for dinner and I went to bed.
Day 3 - the headache is just in the background. I made it through a day of work, but I am ready for bed at 7:30 pm. The thought of diet soda makes me salivate, and I am daydreaming of bread...I am glad I read a lot about what to expect, and knowing that this is all normal helps me mentally, if not physically.
I enlisted the help of several friends to cheer me on and help me be accountable while I do this. Their phonecalls and emails really made me feel special. I believe that many people fail in their attempts to stick to healthy habits because they try to do it on their own through willpower. It doesn't work. God meant for us to draw strength and encouragement from one another. So, happy healthy habits to everyone!
