Today is the 1st day in a while since I used my vita mix. My family and I are all set on loosing weight so we are looking for recipes. We range in age from 44 to 8 mon. old. If you have any suggestions please feel free to chat or leave a message on my wall.
Until next time. Aloha.
I will be picking fresh grapes - not sweet- and want to process them into juice and preserve using a canner. Has anyone done this? I am thinking that I can use the vita mix and then heat, add sweetener, put in jars and then hot water bath. Comments please.
Anyone made sourdough bread from sour dough starter? Wondering how it works or how to adapt recipe.
I am trying to decide betweent the 5200 model and the Professional 500 model. Any suggestions?
The only thing better than using your Vita-Mix yourself is the day your child wants to use it.
This is my son's favorite smoothie recipe.
Ingredients:
Frozen banana
Frozen strawberries
Apple juice
Directions:
No set amounts, he just eyeballs it.
Put all ingredients in your VM.
Turn to 10, then to high.
Enjoy.
I've made tomato juice for years the old fashioned way peeling tomatoes and putting them through a food mill....well I checked out the Vita Mix cookbook this morning and found their juice recipe. I did an experimental batch and can't tell you all how much I LOVE THIS MACHINE!! Easy, easy, easy even for beginners. I put the juice in the fridge and we will drink this batch but plan to do more. I did thin it out with about 2 cups of water to reach the consistency I wanted and added 1 t Kosher salt and a little fresh ground pepper. This is a new tradition around here, sorry Mom and Grandma we have a new dog in the house!!
Does anyone leave the greens on the top of the strawberries? Perhaps I'm getting lazy, but with the addiction to pulverization, I have a desire to leave the green leaves on the top instaed of cutting them off! :)
Any input?
My husband bought the vita mix 5200 for me as a mother's day gift. Actually, he bought me a plant which I've since killed. It is my intention to provide wholesome menu choices for my new family. Our son is almost eight months old and he loves smoothies prepared by me; my husband, not so much. I, of course, promised with the purchase of the mixer that I would provide healthy DAILY soothies for the entire family. At least C. gets them! I vow to make this a healthy start for our family starting tomorrow. And it's not even a monday!!!
I just got my vitamix 4500 today 8/24/10
I am so excited - I just got my vitamix yesterday. I have been in recipe heaven but have not had a chance to use it.
After many requests, here it goes...my awesome "Divine Green Smoothie" recipe: 1 cup green grapes, 1/2 peeled orange, 1/2 peeled banana, 1/2 slice peeled pineapple, 1/2 slice peeled cantaloupe...now begin vegetables - 3-4 small carrots, 1-2 slices of yellow squash and zucchini, 1/2 slice white cabbage, 1 cup spinach, 1 cup kale and 1 cup collard greens... 2-3 squirts of honey, 3 sprinkles of cinnamin spice and 1 1/2 cups of ice cubes. Finally, in your Vitamix 5200, begin on low speed and variable speed 1 and quickly increase to 10, then move low speed to high. Blend for 45-50 seconds until solid green color. Do not blend longer than 60 seconds to avoid heating of your green smoothie. Ready to serve.
Enjoy your Divine Green Smoothie...!
I just received my new 5200 in black, It seems like there may be a clear protective film on the front panel, it is slightly bubbled in the middle. My husband doesn't think so and I don't want to damage the label by trying to remove a coating that perhaps is not there. Anyone know if there is a film or should I just leave it alone?
Do you need a dry blade if you're just using regular whole wheat flour? Does the regular wet blade handle the kneading, etc.?

Hi everyone. I love my vitamix. Anyways, from several people, I have heard it is not reccomended to mix fruit and vegetables together. I was told that fruit in particular should be eaten on an empty stomach and 3 hours after your last meal. Are there anyone nutritionists out there who have any information to share on this.
Thanks,
Joe H.
This is by far my most favorite Vita-mix recipe. I make it atleast once a week.
Whenever I want something cold and creamy, this is what I make:
Ingredients:
2 or 3 frozen bananas broken into pieces
A Handful of soaked raw almonds (or 1 tblsp or so of almond butter)
1/2 tblsp or so of raw cacao nibs
1/4 cup or less (depending on how many bananas you use) of Almond Milk unsweetened (You do not need a lot of liquid for this recipe) (You can also substitute water or any other liquid of your choice)
Directions:
Place all ingredients in your Vita-mix.
Turn on, turn to 10 and then to high.
Use your tamper to get the bananas moving if needed.
If you use too much liquid it will not be thick like icecream.
Once the bananas start to get blended it will turn thick like icecream and it is ready.
This does not take very long.
You can eat it right away or put it in containers and store in the freezer for later.
I have posted several video's here at VM and on youtube, showing how I use the VM machine to break down Whole Raw Foods, Nuts, Grains (gluten free) Herbs, even on how to make Rejuvelac and Grow your own Wheatgrass. I've shown how to make Protein Bars, Pineapple Chips, Flax Snack Chips etc.... Well, I have just created a web site where people can now get them. The Herbs for Teas I use the VM to break down the hard or tough seeds, stems, roots so the nutrients can be easily absorbed by the hot water. They are AWESOME these Herbal Teas. They are considered Raw Food Nutrition. The recipes are created to feed nutrients needed for all body systems and target issue. The Protein Caramels are out of this world delicious! Tomorrow, August 14, 2010 I start my TRANSFORMATION. This is a transformation is for my 56 year old body; which no longer resembles what it used to be. Yes, I know we all grow older, yet does that mean we have to completely let ourselves go to pot...so to speak???
My answer to that is a resounding NO! I refuse to enter my 60's overweight, outa-shape and out of hope. So, tomorrow with the help of a fantastic lady named Karen Million of Lake Travis Wellness Ctr. I start with a body detox.
This will be for 7 days and will be with the use of supplements and liquids, no food. So, I dug deep into the Hall closet and guess what I found! My Vita Mix machine! Yes, hiding behind the dog treats was my expensive yet rarely used Vita Mix machine. Believe it or not, I bought this contraption way back in 1997, and I am ashamed to admit that I probably only ground up nuts in it for smoothies. I did not utilize this incredible aid to health.
My blogs will be about the Adventures I encounter while Tuning in to Health, Tuning Up My Body and Tuning Out to Negative stuff!
Writing for me is the only creative outlet that I have...I hope that people can resonate with my Journey and it will be of help to someone else; as I attempt to help myself. Success to us!
The other day one of my friends who is a Krisna devotee gave me a recipe for a wonderful almond drink. It consists of the following:
1 - Bannana, 15 - Almonds, 2 - Cups Almond milk, 5 - pitted dates, add to the Vitamix.
Blend until the almond chunks are gone.
This will give you a lot of energy!
I ordered this morning after much research. Am so excited to start and will make use of all the tips/recipes.
