    I've made tomato juice for years the old fashioned way peeling tomatoes and putting them through a food mill....well I checked out the Vita Mix cookbook this morning and found their juice recipe.  I did an experimental batch and can't tell you all how much I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!  Easy, easy, easy even for beginners.  I put the juice in the fridge and we will drink this batch but plan to do more.  I did thin it out with about 2 cups of water to reach the consistency I wanted and added 1 t Kosher salt and a little fresh ground pepper.  This is a new tradition around here, sorry Mom and Grandma we have a new dog in the house!!

    Tomorrow, August 14, 2010 I start my TRANSFORMATION.  This is a transformation is for my 56 year old body; which no longer resembles what it used to be.  Yes, I know we all grow older, yet does that mean we have to completely let ourselves go to pot...so to speak???

    My answer to that is a resounding NO!  I refuse to enter my 60's overweight, outa-shape and out of hope.  So, tomorrow with the help of a fantastic lady named Karen Million of Lake Travis Wellness Ctr. I start with a body detox.

    This will be for 7 days and will be with the use of supplements and liquids, no food.  So, I dug deep into the Hall closet and guess what I found!  My Vita Mix machine!  Yes, hiding behind the dog treats was my expensive yet rarely used Vita Mix machine.  Believe it or not, I bought this contraption way back in 1997, and I am ashamed to admit that I probably only ground up nuts in it for smoothies.  I did not utilize this incredible aid to health.

    My blogs will be about the Adventures I encounter while Tuning in to Health, Tuning Up My Body and Tuning Out to Negative stuff!  

    Writing for me is the only creative outlet that I have...I hope that people can resonate with my Journey and it will be of help to someone else; as I attempt to help myself.  Success to us!

    “I live on a very fixed income right now and really did not feel I could justify the cost of the Vitamix.  I have Multiple Sclerosis and am in a wheelchair full-time.  Right now I place a cutting board on my lap to chop fruits/vegetables.  Not only is this unsafe but tiring for me.  I waste a lot of fresh produce because I don't get to it before it goes bad.  I have good intentions of cooking for my family but often times I'm too tired to spend an hour in the kitchen.  I try to eat healthy but that can be expensive, too.  I am so excited to now be able to make my own almond butter which saves me up to $6 a jar.  I use up my fruit by freezing it and making ice cream with it.   I now use the veggies for juicing.  The apples that didn't get eaten are now applesauce.

     

    The fact that it acts as its own dishwasher was a wonderful surprise for me.  I hated using my blender because you had to take it all apart to clean it and the little rubber seal would get really gross and need to be bleached which is way too much trouble. I have gathered up my food processor, juicer and blender and they are all being donated.  With the money that I am saving by using my fruits and veggies before they go bad, along with not buying the coffee drinks, smoothies and gelato, not to mention the impact it will have on my health by saving me time and effort, this amazing appliance is going to pay for itself time and time again!” - Peggy D. of El Dorado Hills, CA

    “I've always been a Juice/Smoothie fanatic, but the blender that I have had took many minutes in order for me to blend all the fruit. Crushing the ice was painful, so needless to say, I only did it once or twice at the most to make my smoothie or shakes.

     

     I went through two blenders and it so happens that I went to Costco, I was actually just browsing, and this guy behind a show stand, asked me how I was doing? I replied the standard 'Ok', and then I asked what he was demonstrating. He replied that he's about to demo the Vitamix blender.  I actually rolled my eyes, thinking, another gimmick, and since I was the only one there so far, I asked him politely but with some sarcasm, "will it make good smoothies? Will it crush the ice in no time?"  The guy just smiled at me and said that he'd be glad to give me a private demo seeing that nobody was nearby.  So he proceeded to put in some fruit and some ice, and I just cannot BELIEVE how fast it liquefied those ingredients.  I actually did a double take and started asking for more demo. He continued to answer all of my questions and more.

     

     By this time, a few people were listening to our conversation.  Needless to say, I didn't hesitate - I bought one right away.  Even though it was beyond my price limit, I had to get one. After I bought it, I was a bit paranoid what my wife would say.  When I bought it and told her I got a new blender, I had to sell it to her fast, so I told her, I will make her smoothies everyday! She rolled her eyes and said, 'Ya, this I have to see'. 

     

    That was 3 months ago, and to this day, I have been making smoothies, shakes everyday for her without any time lost.  It is so fast, and I am so- so- so– so- so – so  glad I invested in this.  I have to thank the demonstrator for giving me a private demo.  My wife says it's the best investment that I have ever bought as she is benefitting from it.  I truly enjoy making my smoothies and shakes with ease!

    I have seen the Vitamix machine and demos before. So I had known about the mixer for a few years but because of the price I did not bite! So I even surprised myself when I bought it on a whim!

     

    I'm getting older and my blood pressure is creeping up along with my belt! I had a doctor appointment and was told that I needed to get a blood pressure monitor to check my pressure for a week and a half and then a 2nd appointment! Not the news I like to hear, so obeying my doctor’s orders, I stepped up my exercise and got the Vitamix too.

     

    10 days later when I went to the doctor’s office the nurse took my pressure and weighed me. Next thing I remember is hearing a "WHAT" and "you’re kidding me" as my doctor came into the room and said "You made my day" I had lost 5 pounds and dropped 16 points on my blood pressure reading! She was happy and laughed when she read the report that I had bought a Vitamix instead of a blood pressure monitor!

     

    The Vitamix helps me get the right mix and get back into shape! Thanks, together with your machine and my workouts I will not get the same readings that I got before in my doctors office!
