“We are extremely honored to receive the President’s “E” Award for Exports. International sales represent one of the fastest growing areas of Vitamix’s business, with our products currently being sold in more than 80 countries,” said Vitamix President, Jodi Berg.
Berg also says that Vitamix has been successful in exporting because there is not another product anywhere in the world that is like the Vitamix. “ The Vitamix machine can turn fruits and vegetables into velvety smooth smoothies, piping hot soup, deliciously creamy frozen treats and so much more – with our level of quality, reliability and performance. People around the world want products they can rely on from a brand they can trust. Moving forward, we fully expect to strengthen and further expand the company’s global reach as we continue to develop and produce high-performance, innovative blending equipment for the consumer market and foodservice industries worldwide,” Berg said.
Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke presented Vitamix President, Jodi Berg, and 22 other companies with the “E” Award for Exports during a ceremony held in Washington, DC on Thursday, May 13, 2010. In addition to receiving a certificate signed by Secretary of Commerce Locke in the name and by the authority of the President, Berg was also presented with a lapel pin and a white pennant with a large blue “E” on it to fly over Vitamix headquarters, located in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
“President Obama’s National Export Initiative goal of doubling U.S. exports and supporting 2 million jobs over the next five years has raised the profile of the importance of exports to our nation’s continued economic recovery,” said Secretary of Commerce Locke. “Vitamix is being honored today for its achievement in enhancing export growth which helps strengthen our economy and create American jobs.
Locke continued saying, “I want to congratulate you on your achievement, and for supporting critical export-related jobs for American workers. President Obama’s initiative was designed with one overriding goal: to get people back to work in jobs that provide security, dignity, and a sense of hope for the future. Its businesses like yours with a proven record of success that are going to help us meet or exceed that goal.”
To qualify for the “E” Award for Exports, a manufacturer must demonstrate a substantial increase in volume exports during a four-year period. Once a company has qualified for consideration, applicants are reviewed by the Interagency President’s “E” Award Committee, which is composed of representatives of U.S. government departments and agencies involved in export-related activities. Those receiving favorable consideration are then forwarded to the Secretary of Commerce for final selection.

I’m a new Vita-Mix owner and have to say I’ve had a few problems with it. Well maybe I should say challenges, that sounds more positive. I always see such success stories on here that it's making me feel a failure! Doesn't anyone tell about their disasters? I always think you can learn from your mistakes and maybe others can too. My first soup was awful and my first ice cream didn’t freeze. I didn't know why but I still kept going. I’m no quitter. Definitely not at the price it cost. Today my disaster continued but I had to laugh at the end of it. I hope my tale encourages anyone else who has had unsuccessful attempts. Today I decided to make more soup. I love soup but it takes ages to make it in the normal way. So I remembered the Thai Ginger Soup that I saw demonstrated. It was a big influence on my decision to buy the Vita-Mix. This morning I watched the UK chappie’s video on the Vita-Mix website a couple of times and wrote down the ingredients and his method. As I listened to him, I realised why my first soup hadn’t worked. He said to go easy on strong flavoured foods like onion, ginger and garlic. I had been over generous with the onion! So I went to work on the Thai Ginger soup he made which is different to the one in my recipe book. All went well until I turned the machine up to high and the lid flew off. Well it was just like you see in the sit-coms. The soup was everywhere and I mean everywhere. I was amazed that there was any left in the container. Undaunted I set to work to clean it up. I started with myself and took off my clothes and slippers. I was covered. Next I cleaned the Vita-Mix, the benches, fridge and freezer doors and wall cupboards. As I turned to rinse the cloth, I knocked an empty wine bottle from the end of the bench where it was waiting to go into the recycling bin. It smashed and the only good thing was it was empty. Then I stood on a tiny piece of glass, I hadn’t replaced my slippers! I finally cleaned the glass and the floor up and set the Vita-Mix away again to make the remains of the soup. I turned to put the remaining coconut milk into the freezer, (I’d only used a small amount from a large tin), only to find my 21 year old cat had climbed onto the bench and had her head in the bowl! At that point I burst out laughing. Probably a touch of hysteria! The only thing left to go wrong was that the soup was awful. It wasn’t! It was absolutely delicious thank goodness. A bit thinner than I like but that’s easily remedied next time I make it. Now to the problem of that lid. I always press it down hard and was thinking I’d forgotten to do that. I was sure I hadn’t. I’ve discovered that the lid of my 64 oz container can’t just be pressed down hard like the demonstrators do or like my 32oz container. This 64oz one has to be pressed down really hard and at the same time you have to lift each lip separately and push into place. You never see the demonstrators do that but I did notice later that the UK chappie presses down on the lid for a while after he sets the machine away. Maybe that's another tip. I’ll have to check to see if anything's wrong with mine as it's so different to the 32oz one. Well after all that I had a lovely lunch and feel much more positive about things. Anyone else out there willing to confess to their disasters?
Now I have to say I really don't like the look of all those green glasses of stuff. They just look like slime. Yuk!!!!
I can't even pluck up the courage to make one of the green smoothies. I need a different colour drink. I don't mind red or yellow. Pink is quite nice too. That green just turns me off even if the contents are healthy. Everyone else seems to be daft about them. So, is it just me?
